Industrial Steel Shelving

Industrial steel shelving is most commonly used where products are stacked and picked physically by hand. It is best suited for small items such as parts, components, clothing, accessories, etc. Steel shelving is comes in a variety of styles and sizes in both open and closed styles. Shelves can be fastened using clips or nuts and bolts. Because of it’s narrow shelf profile, steel shelving allows for multiple storage levels without taking up too much vertical with the shelves themselves.

Open Style Steel Shelving

~Uses thin X or Sway braces for support on the back and sides thus leaving the rest of the unit “open”.

Closed style steel shelving

~Uses flat steel panels for support on the back and the sides, thus closing off the unit. Some customers prefer this style as it creates more division and prevents smaller items from falling behind or on the sides of the unit.

Steel shelving applications are vast and can be used for a large order picking operation or a small parts area. Many customers use steel shelving for storing supplies and outfitting smaller rooms and closets. Others incorporate steel shelving units underneath pallet rack bays in order to maximize their vertical space. Steel Shelving systems can also be used to create a shelf-supported mezzanine or pick module.

Wide-Span Shelving

Wide-Span, or Bulk shelving is different from steel shelving in the sense that it is typically used for larger items such as cases, boxes, or bins. Most Wide Span shelving systems are similar to pallet racking in the sense that there are 3 main components; vertical uprights, horizontal cross beams, and some sort of decking surface. The most common type of decking on bulk shelving is MDF or particle board. Wire decking or steel decking is also an option.

Wide-Span shelving is most commonly used in applications where product needs to be stored on a smooth surface. Example of this include small parts, furniture, and clothing. Most bulk shelving units are relatively easy to install and adjust, as they interlock with a rivet system. Wide Span shelving is typically classified as medium-duty, with an average capacity of 500-1000lbs per storage level.
